1974 Breitling Navitimer Ref. 8808. The Breitling Navitimer is an evolution of the 1942 Breitling Chronomat, with its typical slide rule bezel. Breitling decided to improve this highly practical bezel and in 1952, the Navitimer was born. What is even more curious to me is the 8808 case that has a crown hole at the six o'clock and 9 o'clock positions. Research has informed me that this is not totally unusual. It baffles me why someone would marry the 8808 case with the 7806 movement.The Navitimer Chrono-Matic ref. 8808 features distinctive "Big Eyes" hour and minute counters, accentuating its classic appeal. However, it does not include a running seconds subdial at 6 o'clock, as the date display takes its place.
Sometime ago, I asked about the authencticity of a 8808 and I got an answer telling me that it is OK (Thanks a lot Fred). But today I have received pics of the movement and engravings and I would like to ask the experts if it is ok or not.A rare example of the 8808 Chronomat with its originally ‘Intended’ squared hands. It is far more common to see this watch with slim Navitimer hands due to the 1970s crisis that was happening at the time of production and Breitling most likely fitting parts they had available.
